Your vision, values and purpose

In this one day workshop, we will work creatively with a group of your key stakeholders to define the vision, values and purpose of your organisation. Together we will ensure that these guiding principles are thoroughly considered, deeply understood and effectively communicated.

Vision, values and purpose — your solid foundation

Vision, values and purpose are the foundational tenets of your organisation:

  • A defined purpose enables you to plan strategically, protecting the foundation of your organisation even as you move forward.
  • With defined core values, you know what is most important to your organisation and where you will not compromise, no matter what.
  • With an agreed vision, you know where your organisation is going and what you are trying to achieve.

Together, vision, values and purpose create a solid foundation. They provide strategic alignment, unify your actions and motivate your people.

What will the workshop cover?

What are vision, values and purpose?

  • Understanding vision, values and purpose, and the theoretical frameworks behind them.
  • Exploring why vision, values and purpose are important and what they can do for your organisation.
  • Examples of vision, values and purpose from other organisations.

Purpose: who are we and why are we here?

  • Discovering the purpose behind your organisation.
  • Exploring the core of this purpose: what is it that will remain foundational and steady in a changing environment?
  • Defining the purpose of your organisation.

Values: how do we want to operate?

  • Discovering the values that define and influence your organisation.
  • Exploring which of those values are most important for your organisation.
  • Defining your core values: the handful of values that, even when push comes to shove, your organisation is not prepared to sacrifice.

Vision: where are we going?

  • Exploring the vision for your organisation: where do you want to be in the future?
  • Discovering how your purpose and values influence and guide your vision.
  • Stretching you further and creating a big hairy audacious goal (BHAG): how far do you really want to go?
  • Defining the vision of your organisation.

You’ve defined your vision, values and purpose – now what?

  • Taking your vision, values and purpose back to your organisation.
  • Learning how to plan strategically in line with your vision, values and purpose.
  • Turning your vision, values and purpose into real and practical action.

What will I learn?

  • Understand the ongoing role of your vision, values and purpose within your organisation.

  • Charitable organisations that need to clearly define their core foundations both to facilitate stakeholder engagement and to enable strategic planning and action.

  • Businesses and organisations that are part of mergers, acquisitions and corporate restructuring where two or more sets of vision, values and purpose need to be combined into a new coherent whole.
